Good Friday morning ...
Faith is not getting what I want. It's not having things work out just as I planned. It's not "living the life" as we like to say.
Faith is not even depending on God to fulfill all His promises! In the Bible's greatest chapter on faith it is twice recorded, "All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised" [Hebrews 11:13] "These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised." [Hebrews 11:39]
To have faith in God is to believe God no matter what happens!
God is dependable ... no matter what!
Which is why authentic faith praises God in difficulty and adversity ... when life seems to be crashing in ... when everything seems to be going wrong. God is worthy of praise whatever the circumstances. Whatever the facts ... however bad ... God is the supreme fact!
If there was a time for Christians to hang on to this truth ... it is now. With the world shaking in its boots with COVID-19, now a year old and still not under control, fear is still running rampant. Hebrews 13:26 tells us that "once more" God will shake the world before the coming of Christ. Right now, He may be shaking everything that can be shaken (everything built by man) so that only unshakable things can remain. Perhaps God is shaking the earth so that we can figure out what matters most.
But here's the good news. Out of these shaky days should come a great spiritual harvest. People are asking questions because they don't know what to believe and they want to know who they can trust. Perhaps we of faith have the answer for which they are searching.
So, don't despair and don't give in to fear, I suspect we were made for times like these.
"Keep me safe (preserve me), O God, for in You I take refuge." [Psalm 16:1]
