Good Friday morning ...
Just a simple set of wooden shelves ...
Four horizontal pieces of wood, four vertical pieces, sixteen gizmos that only IKEA could invent, and sixteen nuts to go on the gizmos. Simple.
But I struggled. The gizmos wouldn't insert properly; the nuts refused purchase.
Included with the set was a simple diagram for assembling ... no verbiage, just a picture diagram. I discovered there was a right way to assemble the shelves --- a simple plan that brought frustration when it wasn't followed.
Life is like that. It was made to work God's way. The Maker has given us clear, simple instructions, written by God on the human heart when He created Adam and Eve and so expressed through the human conscience. But when conscience is ignored or rejected, the instructions are seared, silenced. Inner restraint is removed. Sin is easy, even desirable and totally destructive.
So, God also gave us the instructions for life in the Bible, an operational manual provided directly from the factory. A handy, how-to handbook for life. So, we have two sources: our conscience and the Bible.
Disintegration in or nation's social order --- crime, alcoholism, drug abuse, family instability, divorce, corruption, poverty, greed, political upheaval, divisiveness, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera --- can be simply explained. God's instructions have been disregarded, abandoned, disobeyed. The Bible has become a closed book.
Time to get BACK TO THE BIBLE.
We thank You, Father, for the Bible, Your incredible Book of truth, ancient in origin, contemporary in wisdom. Forgive us for laying it aside. Help us to pick it up again and to see that we deprive ourselves of a wealth of resources when we neglect Your Word, for in it and through it we come to know You and Your love for us as well as to learn about ourselves and our needs and Your wonderful provisions for us. In Jesus' name! Amen.
"The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.
They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward." [Psalm 19:7-11]
Have a great weekend, perhaps sending a little time in the Word ...
